South Africa and Guinea brace for make or break showdown

South Africa and Guinea are bracing themselves for a Monday evening showdown that could make or break their CHAN 2024 campaigns. A loss for either side could be terminal.

Bafana Bafana, as South Africa are better known in football circles, have one point in the bag after a draw with Algeria. Guinea are still recovering from a smacking from co-hosts Uganda.

“The first game served as a real icebreaker for us, and we managed to fulfil that objective. The performance was at the right level and was reflected in the result achieved against a solid team. Now, we are in fourth place in the group, with just one point, and we know we have to surpass ourselves in the next game,” said Molefi Ntseki, who is in charge of Bafana Bafana at the tournament.

“We have had enough time to rest, and I believe they are recovered. It’s not the fact that we lost that takes away our hope. Our objective is still alive,” an adamant Souleymane Camara told the media about Guinea’s chances.

After the South Africa versus Guinea tussle, Uganda will take to the pitch at the sold-out double header. The Uganda Cranes are flying high and will look to follow fellow hosts Tanzania into the knockout stages. A defeat for their opponents, Niger, could mean an early ticket back home.
