Top Coaches Enrolled For CAF A Licence
Some of South Africa’s top coaches have been enrolled for the prestigious CAF A licence course to be conducted by SAFA later this month. South Africa has recently been resubmitted into the CAF Coaching Convention, paving the way for top coaching courses to be conducted in the country.
“It has been six years since we conducted CAF B and A course in South Africa, however, we have managed to get accreditation and satisfied the new manuals’ requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF),” said SAFA Technical Director, Walter Steenbok.

Current DSTV Premiership coaches Gavin Hunt, Eric Tinkler, and Steve Barker are set to take part in the upcoming CAF A licence course. Hunt had to seat in the stands when Supersport United played Gaborone United in Botswana because of confusion over his coaching qualifications.
Some well-known former players including Jabulani Mendu, Sailor Tshabalala, and Godfrey Saphula are also part of the group that will take part in the course. Steenbok is understandably excited about the return of coaching courses to South Africa.
“CAF regulations stipulate that Head Coaches must possess either a Pro or CAF A license before sitting on benches during continental competitions like the Champions League and the Confederations Cup, leading us towards empowering our local talented coaches,” stressed Steenbok, who has expressed his wish to see more local coaches getting higher qualifications.
More details about SAFA coaching courses can be found on the SAFA website.
