The second round of Varsity Football 2025 delivered exciting action, with Wits, UJ, and NWU all securing victories, while the Tshwane derby ended in a stalemate.
Wits claimed a dominant 2-0 home win over DUT, controlling most of the match. Prince Manku opened the scoring with a long-range strike before halftime, and Tebogo Masemola sealed the result late on. DUT fought hard in the second half but could not break through Wits’ strong defence, with goalkeeper Lwando Mvinjana making key saves.
NWU edged CUT 1-0 thanks to captain Aphelele Sibisi’s well-timed header early in the second half. Despite CUT’s resilient defending, the hosts maintained control and held on to all three points.
UJ snatched a 1-0 victory away to UFS, with Keletso Sekhwela scoring deep into stoppage time from a corner. The match had been evenly contested, with both sides creating chances, but UJ’s late pressure finally paid off.
In the Tshwane derby, UP-Tuks and TUT battled to a 0-0 draw. Both teams had opportunities to win, but strong goalkeeping and missed chances kept the game scoreless, with a late Tuks goal ruled out for offside.
