FKF Condemns Super Cup Chaos as Violence Overshadows Tusker-Gor Mahia Clash

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has condemned the violence, vandalism and confrontations that marred Sunday’s Super Cup encounter between Tusker and Gor Mahia at Nyayo Stadium.

The match, which saw Tusker claim a 3-1 victory, was overshadowed by chaotic scenes inside and around the stadium as fans clashed with police following the final whistle.

Fans reportedly invaded the pitch during the trophy presentation, while police deployed tear gas as running battles broke out in and around the venue. Journalists covering the match also reported confrontations with security officers.

FKF said such behaviour had no place in Kenyan football.

“There is no place for violence, destruction of property, intimidation or any conduct that puts the safety of players, journalists, officials, fans, security personnel and the public at risk.”

FKF questions use of tear gas

The federation also expressed concern over the use of tear gas and other crowd-control measures, calling on security agencies to exercise greater restraint.

FKF said it would investigate the incidents and review match footage, reports from officials and information from other stakeholders.

Anyone found to have breached football regulations or the law — including fans, club officials, stewards or security personnel — could face disciplinary or legal action.

The latest disturbances raise fresh concerns over crowd management in Kenyan football, following a previous season in which several matches were disrupted by crowd trouble.

For FKF, the message is clear: passion for the game cannot come at the expense of safety. Some commnetators have criticised the FKF for always “condemning” without acting.
