Orlando Pirates Taking No Further Action On Convicted Lorch
Orlando Pirates will be taking no further action against star player Thembinkosi Lorch who was convicted of assault in the Randburg Magistrate Court. According to a statement released by Orlando Pirates, the club is satisfied with its internal dealing with the case since it surfaced in 2020.
“Following our internal investigations, the club charged Mr. Lorch with serious misconduct. He pleaded guilty to the charge and the club imposed a monetary fine and ordered him to undergo anger management therapy,” read the statement released by Orlando Pirates.
The player underwent the said anger management therapy with Dr. Nomsa Mkuna-Boikanyo and the club says Lorch has not been involved in any violent incidents.
“We are confident that the anger management therapy was an appropriate corrective measure,” states the Orlando Pirates release.
While the club said they did not have the full details of the conviction and sentencing, Lorch is due back in court on the 28th of July to hear his fate. Gender-based violence is a serious matter in South Africa so the deadly forward might be looking at some jail time ahead of the 2023/4 DSTV Premiership season.
