Addo Heads For Germany As Deflated Ghana Exits World Cup
Otto Addo is headed for Germany after seeing a deflated Ghana exit the FIFA World Cup. Addo confirmed he would not renew his contract with the Ghana Football Association after it expires at the end of December.
“My family sees our future in Germany,” Addo told the media after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.
Andre Ayew’s first-half penalty miss set the tone for the Black Stars’ unceremonious elimination from Qatar 2022. The veteran’s poorly taken spot kick was followed by an underwhelming performance by Ghana, which saw an equally poor Uruguay score two poorly defended goals.
Ghana Football Association released a statement thanking all the stakeholders but did not mention coach Addo or his decision.
“The Ghana Football Association would in due course inform all stakeholders about any further developments concerning the Black Stars,” read the statement released immediately after the defeat.
The saving grace for Ghana is the youthfulness of the squad, giving hope for future World Cup appearances with better results. Mohamed Kudus was a bright star throughout the tournament, while players like Seidu and Williams showed potential.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is the next target for Ghana, and it will be interesting to see if the Ghana Football Association goes for another local coach.
