AFCON 2025: Round of 16 Fixtures Confirmed as Knockout Drama Beckons
The stage is set for the knockout phase of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, following a pulsating group stage that once again showcased the depth and quality of African football.
The Round of 16 will be played from Saturday, 3 January to Tuesday, 6 January, with two matches scheduled each day as the remaining nations battle for a place in the quarter-finals. Kick-off times are set for 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT) and 20h00 local time (19h00 GMT).
Hosts Lead a Stacked Line-Up
Tournament hosts Morocco headline Sunday’s action when they take on Tanzania at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. The Atlas Lions topped Group A and will be backed by a passionate home crowd as they continue their quest for a first AFCON title in half a century. Tanzania progressed as one of the best third-placed teams from Group C.
Later that evening, Rabat will host another heavyweight clash as South Africa face Cameroon at the Al Medina Stadium. The encounter carries added intrigue with Hugo Broos coming up against the Indomitable Lions, the side he famously led to AFCON glory in 2017.
Knockout Action Kicks Off in Tangier
The knockout phase begins on Saturday with Senegal, champions in 2021, facing Sudan at the Grand Stade de Tangier. The Teranga Lions will be aiming to reassert their pedigree, while Sudan look to continue their impressive run.
Saturday night sees Mali lock horns with Tunisia at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. Mali remain in pursuit of a maiden continental crown, while Tunisia will be hoping to rekindle memories of their historic 2004 triumph.
Pharaohs, Super Eagles and Heavyweights in Action
On Monday, record seven-time champions Egypt take on Benin at the Grand Stade de Agadir. Despite their rich history, the Pharaohs have not lifted the AFCON trophy since 2010 and will be desperate to end the long wait.
Later that evening, Nigeria, one of the standout teams of the group stage, face Mozambique at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. The Super Eagles are determined to go one step further after finishing runners-up at the 2023 edition.
Blockbuster Finish to the Round
The Round of 16 concludes on Tuesday with a pair of high-profile encounters. Algeria meet the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat, before defending champions Côte d’Ivoire take on Burkina Faso at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in a clash expected to deliver fireworks.
The quarter-finals will be played on 9–10 January, with the final scheduled for 18 January at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
