Award-Winning Professor To Rock Africa Sport And Entertainment Summit
An award-winning teacher and scholar, Professor Anita Elberse from Harvard, is set to “rock” delegates at the first ever Africa Sport and Entertainment Summit on Wednesday 28 September at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton.
Anita Elberse is the Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. She develops and teaches an MBA course covering the “Businesses of Entertainment, Media, and Sports,” which ranks among the most sought-after courses in the School’s curriculum, and chairs a short executive education program, also named “The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports.”
In her research, Professor Elberse primarily aims to understand what drives the success of products in the entertainment, media, sports, and other creative industries, and how firms can effectively manage products and talent in such sectors. She is acclaimed for her work on digital-media strategies. Professor Elberse has conducted case studies on dozens of entertainment companies, personalities, and other entities. Several of these are described in her first book, Blockbusters: Hit-making, Risk-taking, and the Big Business of Entertainment.
“I am really excited to set foot on the continent and to be part of the first ever Africa Sport and Entertainment Summit in Johannesburg and to teach a few of my latest case studies. I have no doubt that it will inspire and assist entertainment, media, and sports executives with their decision-making process when faced with challenging business opportunities. I believe that this is only the beginning of great things to come for this summit, and that it will ignite broader interest across the African continent,” said Professor Anita Elberse from the Harvard Business School.
Professor Elberse is set to teach three case studies at the Africa Sport and Entertainment Summit, namely cases on Paris Saint-Germain FC, The Video Streaming Wars, and Toto Wolff and the Mercedes Formula One Team. The Summit seeks to unpack opportunities in the Business of Sport and Entertainment in Africa, as these industries have been identified as growth sectors for the African continent.
“The Africa Sport and Entertainment Summit is a great platform for the Business of Sport and Entertainment Industry, our vision is for the platform to be a calendar highlight around the world. It is impossible not to look at Africa and see growth potential, this includes sports and entertainment assets that are traditionally not consumed in Africa. We invite the world to join us as we put on an annual showcase, with high impact,” said Sthe Mabanga, CEO of 83-Capital and the Promoter of the Summit.
Mabanga further added “The unique nature of the inaugural Summit is that we have invited Harvard Prof Anita Elberse to conduct her globally renowned case methods for our delegates, this unique experience will allow us to have insights into real-live cases on how global brands operate and how the decision-making process unfolds. It will set a great scene for the industry panel discussions later in the day. It’s really a not to be missed opportunity, hope to see many of our industry peers at the Summit.”
“If the past 2 years have taught us anything in the world of sponsorships, it would be the need to constantly seek avenues aimed at ensuring brand relevance even through the most challenging times. The Africa Sport and Entertainment Summit is one such platform aimed at unlocking new sponsorship value and client experiences, and we are proud to be a partner of this inaugural summit to elevate the opportunities that abound,” said Tobie Badenhorst, Head of Sponsorship and Cause Marketing at Nedbank.
