Juan Micha Backs Equatorial Guinea to Rise to AFCON Challenge
Equatorial Guinea head coach Juan Micha has expressed quiet confidence and strong belief in his squad ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, insisting that preparation, discipline and unity will be key to navigating a demanding group stage.
Drawn in Group E alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso and Sudan, Equatorial Guinea face one of the tournament’s most competitive sections. Despite the challenge, Micha remains optimistic that his team can deliver a positive campaign and push for progression beyond the group phase.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the coach highlighted the positive atmosphere within the camp, noting that the players are focused, motivated and eager for the competition to begin.
“The atmosphere is very good and everything is going well,” Micha said. “The players are ready and fully concentrated. We are all looking forward to the first match.”
Micha acknowledged the difficulties of preparing for a major continental tournament, stressing that limited preparation time remains a challenge for many teams. However, he believes attention to detail and patience can make the difference at AFCON level.
“We need time to prepare properly if we want to start the competition in the best way. Preparation is not easy, but it is essential if you want to compete.”
Despite the strength of their opponents, Micha insists Equatorial Guinea will approach the tournament with belief and humility, focusing on delivering their best performances rather than being distracted by reputations.
“We know this is a very tough group with strong teams like Algeria, Burkina Faso and Sudan. But we believe in ourselves. We want to present a good version of Equatorial Guinea and compete with confidence.”
Progressing beyond the group stage remains the primary objective, with Micha admitting that advancement from such a competitive section would represent a significant achievement.
“Our goal is to get out of the group if possible. That is the ambition of every coach here, and we will prepare ourselves to give it our best.”
The Equatorial Guinea coach also reserved praise for the team’s supporters, acknowledging the importance of fan backing both at home and in Morocco.
“We are proud of our supporters and their presence. We know there will also be fans from Morocco and other countries watching us. We will do everything on the pitch to make them proud.”
As AFCON 2025 approaches, Equatorial Guinea arrive with belief rather than bravado — determined to compete, disciplined in approach, and ready to test themselves against Africa’s elite.
