Telkom Rallies Support For Netball World Cup
Communications giant, Telkom has thrown its full weight behind the Netball World Cup to be held in Cape Town, South Africa. The global tournament will be held on African soil for the first time and Telkom has joined forces with retail company SPAR to ensure unmeasured success.
“The two companies are both key cogs in growing netball in the country. Both companies understand how it is crucial to develop netball from a grassroots level to our national team. For instance, SPAR is committed to the welfare and empowerment of women while Telkom, through the TNL and TNC, has provided the perfect launch pad for young players to showcase their skills and talents,” said Martha Nkhwashu, the Senior Manager of Brand and Communication Marketing at Telkom.
Telkom launched the #StandTall to bring more awareness to the historic Netball World Cup and encourage South African youths to follow their dreams without ever giving up. Bongi Msomi, Izette Griesel, Khanyisa Chawane, and Tshina Mdau who are netball national team players, are ambassadors of the campaign ahead of the tournament to be in July 2023.
“Leading up to the Netball World Cup, we will be shining a light on the netball heroes who have faced adversity and stood tall to achieve their goals. In conjunction with telling their individual stories, each ambassador will be tasked with hosting coaching clinics in their home towns encouraging the youth to get involved in the clinic, play netball, and showcase their skills,” Nkhwashu explained.
According to Nkhwashu, Telkom will be hosting a number of events and activations in the lead-up to the Netball World Cup. Telkom employees will be sending messages to the SPAR-sponsored national team and also stand chances to win prizes at in-house games and quiz events. It is the hope of Telkom that the energy from the company’s employees will filter out to the general public and create a positive vibe around the Netball World Cup.
“This will all be done under the umbrella of Netball Thursdays,” Nkhwashu noted.
