Senegal and DR Congo win, Namibia hold Tunisia as Djibouti collect first point in World Cup qualifiers
Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo registered wins in Sunday’s action of the ongoing CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers. With most countries on the road or in the air, only ten teams were in action on Sunday.
Habib Diallo’s goal in the first half gave the Teranga Lions of Senegal their second victory in Group B. With eight points in the bag, Senegal have top spot until Sudan play South Sudan on Tuesday afternoon. Sudan will regain that top spot with a win. DR Congo kept themselves in the hunt thanks to a goal from Meshack Elia early in the first half against Togo.
Gabriel Dadzie gave Djibouti a surprise lead which lasted all of three minutes against Ethiopia out in Morocco. Minyelu Wondimu brought normality to the football world with a well-taken equaliser at the Ben Mohamed El Abdi Stadium. It was still a small celebration for Djibouti who collected their first point of the campaign.
Earlier in the afternoon, Sao Tome & Principe were moments away from collecting a rare point of their own in Group H. Sheikh Sesay spoilt that little dream with a 90th-minute strike for Liberia, who hardly looked like winning until that point. Namibia and Tunisia shared the spoils in an uninspiring show at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg. Tunisia remain on top of Group H with 10 points with Namibia two points behind.
