Four Declarations of Interest Received For AFCON 2027
The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has confirmed receipt of four declarations of interest for the hosting of AFCON 2027. Six countries are involved in the first critical step towards hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are presenting a joint East Africa bid.
“At the expiry of the deadline set by the administration, CAF recorded four bids from six countries,” read a statement from the continental football governing body.
Namibia pulled out of a joint bid proposal with fellow Southern Africans Botswana, who will have to dig deep if they intend to submit a strong case. Zambia is one of the countries bidding to host the 2025 edition, ruling out any chance of the country replacing Namibia.
Algeria is also eyeing the 2025 AFCON and could well be hedging by expressing interest in hosting two years later. The East Africa joint bid looks to be the best-placed entrant since that part of Africa has not hosted major tournaments in a long time.
The bidders have until 23 May 2023 to submit a final signed bid with CAF inspections set for 1-15 July. A date for the announcement of the host for AFCON 2027 has not been set.
