Marc Brys Steps Away as Cameroon Chapter Closes
Marc Brys has confirmed his departure from the Indomitable Lions, bringing an emotional end to a brief but significant chapter in Cameroon’s recent football history.
In a heartfelt statement released on social media, the Belgian coach acknowledged that the time had come to “turn the page and move on,” citing personal and professional obligations that no longer allow him to remain fully present with the national team.
Despite stepping aside, Brys was clear in reaffirming his bond with Cameroon.
“My love for Cameroon remains intact. I will always support our country, in all circumstances,” he wrote, while expressing gratitude to the Cameroonian people and the Ministry of Sports for their support during his tenure.
An Unbeaten Qualification Campaign
Brys departs with his reputation strengthened by results. Under his guidance, Cameroon produced a flawless TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualification campaign, finishing top of Group J with 14 points and without a single defeat.
It marked Cameroon’s first unbeaten AFCON qualification run since Hugo Broos in 2017, underlining the tactical stability and competitive edge Brys brought to the team during his time in charge.
While his spell was not without off-field complexities, the numbers tell a compelling story — consistency, control and results at a time when Cameroon required clarity.
Gratitude and Closure
The departing coach paid special tribute to Cameroonian supporters, noting the “constant and invaluable support” he received throughout his tenure. He also acknowledged the backing of the Minister of Sports, a rare public nod amid a period often marked by institutional tension.
His message carried no bitterness — only appreciation, reflection and closure.
