Standard Bank Looking To Take Pro-Am Series To More Areas

Standard Bank is looking to make a bigger impact women’s sport by taking the Standard Bank Pro-Am Series to more areas in South Africa and beyond.

According to Lee-John Maans, the Gauteng regional head for Personal Banking at Standard Bank, the event will be expanded.

“We are taking the Pro-Am Series to three other regions this year and then to all the provinces from next year,” Maans told DiskiAfrika at the event which took place at the Glendower Golf Course in Edenvale.

Standard Bank’s involvement in the Pro-Am Series began in 2018 and the response has been good enough for the premier ban continue backing its growth.

“The response from the girls and the public in general has been fantastic anwe want to see this event and program expand to all areas of South Africa andthe dream is to take into Africa,” Maans explained.

The Standard Bank Pro-Am is focusing on girls and getting them involved golf. The girls are also taught life skills and, more importantly, how to spend money in the program.

“Many of us are professionals but we have never been taught how to actually use our money,” noted Maans, who claims to be a mid handicapper in golf.

It is the wish of Standard Bank to have more girls turn professional and participate in golf tournaments across the world.

“We would like to see at one girl go through the program and then turn professional participating in world tournaments. We don’t want to have just five ladies in a tournamet but more just like in men’s tournaments,” stressed Maans.

The Standard Bank Prom-Am Series will be staged in Cape Town and Sun City later this year. Other provincial tournaments are scheduled for 2023.
